Idea Tank
Coaching and community are the foundation of Guerrilla Fitness. Our ongoing commitment to improving both led us to the creation of the "Guerrilla Idea Tank". You know better than anyone else what you want from Guerrilla Fitness. So tell us. What is your idea? Revolutionary or simple, we want to hear it. Share your ideas, tell us what you think of other peoples ideas and join the discussion. We're here, and we are ready to make ideas happen. Let's get started!
Mentoring and Retaining On-Rampers
Mentor/partner program for those just coming out of on-ramp. If they see results, progress steadily, and make friends, they are more apt to stay and grow the skill level of Guerrilla, right? Partner member volunteers with newer Guerrillas to talk lifestyle incorporation, Paleo/Zone/nutrition, travel/work schedules, skill development, and other ideas TBD. End goal – growing the Guerrilla teams for community and competition. It doesn’t cost anything.
Daycare
It would be awesome if there was someone there to watch our kids in the office for a class in the morning/evening a few times a week. I’ll pay a reasonable fee to whoever is there watching them. With both parents being members, it’s very hard to get to the box on a consistent basis with competiting priorities and the kids at home and we can’t both be there at the same time. This probably doesn’t benefit a whole lot of people, and for various reasons may never happen, but it’s worth throwing it out there!
Additional Class
Those class additions to the schedule would be perfect for Montclair.
Barbell Club
Another Barbell Club sesion, if space allows. Maybe adding one in the morning for people who’s schedules won’t allow to go at night.
Non traditional incorporation
I would like to see non traditional exercises added to the workouts. (tire flips, tire dragging, weighted carries, etc.
Foundations Refresher
Being a 2X a week Cross Fitter it is very tough to improve on some of the movements needed. Would be great if there was an option to step back into foundations from time to time to both refresh the basics and to correct some things. The coaches are excellent at doing this during a WOD, but it is tough when you have a full class and you are in the heat of battle with a WOD to stop and make adjustments.
Events Calendar
I think having a calendar of events on the site would be great. It doesn’t have to just be just for Guerrilla Fitness events…local competitions or running races and other events of note might be good to have on there, too. I’d be happy to run it, too.
WOD twitter
Can we get a Guerrilla Fitness Morristown/Montclair twitter? Users can sign up to have the daily WODs sent to our phones as soon as they are posted, making it easier to plan our next day. It’s a great way to use technology as an active communication device, rather than passively posting on the website or FB. The tweet could be just the WOD (under 140 char) with a link to the page for other news.
Thank you!
Pictures
My friend’s box in Ann Arbor posts a whole bunch of pictures of people in each WOD every day on Picasa.
Not sure if that is too much trouble, but I would think it would be cool to see pics over time of how people progress, etc.

Strength Training Discussion
I’d love to hear people’s thoughts (coaches and athletes) on different approaches to strength training. It seems that the CrossFit and especially CrossFit competitions have moved steadily over to more strength based programming so I’m curious to find out how people see themselves progressing in this area and what they do to improve with things like Wendler, linear progressions, etc and whether people see this fitting well into CrossFIt programming.
Staggered class times
As our Guerrilla Community grows space is limited. I would like to suggest staggering the class times when we have a strength move(Deads, Press, Bench) before a timed WOD.
For example, schedule class times in heats:
-Heat 1: 9am (strength) 9:30 (WOD)
-Heat 2: 9:30 (Strength) 10am (WOD)
If necessary, Heat 3: 10am (Strength) 10:30 (WOD)
I think having a strength portion to our training program is very important and don’t want to see that disappear from programming. For some of us, having at least 30 minutes is important in our training. When you are faced with sharing racks or changing out weights the 30min time cap may not be enough.
Benefits
It would be nice to have the ability to earn rewards based on membership. For example, if you pre-pay a year, not only do you get a discount, but you get access to programs like Crossfit Endurance at NO extra cost. I think it’s hard to take advantage of other programs when there’s yet another fee for them (Crossfit is already on the high end). Maybe this falls under CF HQ rules/regulations. It would just be nice to see other programs included in membership. Or if you’ve been a member for x number of years, you earn points to do other things…kind of like reward for loyalty.
Streeching class!
I think would be great to have once a week, maybe at weekends, a streeching class…
I will make us to start the week in another way and provably we learn some new strech movements!!!
Community Service
Create a program that reaches out to inner-city youth that will give those less fortunate an opportunity to participate in Cross-Fit.
Barbell movements
Would it be possible to get more barbell movements into the WODs? Front squats, overhead squats, snatches, cleans, thrusters I’d even welcome deadlifts, if you must. I ask this from a purely selfish perspective. We don’t work on these movements during the strength sessions (we used to when I first started) and I have no other opportunity to work on these movements outside GF. I personally feel like my technique on some of the lifts are slipping because of the irregularity in which I do them. Practice makes perfect! Thanks!
Progress Tracking
Does anyone else wish there was an easy way to keep track of your workout performance?
As a new member to Guerrilla CF, I’m still learning the ropes and figuring out how everything works here. Why aren’t we posting our daily WOD results in an online database so we can easily track our progress and set goals? Some other boxes offer members free access to services like Beyond the Whiteboard or WODIFY. I find these (especially Beyond the Whiteboard) to be extremely helpful, and a great source of motivation as you push for a new goal and compare yourself with peers.
Perhaps I missed the memo and this already exists at Guerrilla CF… if so, please tell me! If not, it would be great for everyone to have this tool. If you’re anything like me, you’re interested in tracking your performance, but often too lazy to write everything down… so it gets lost when the whiteboard is erased at the end of the day.
Thoughts?
Childcare
Childcare would allow us to come to class more consistently. Both my Husband and I are members and it is difficult for us to enjoy class together. Hope you consider my suggestion…..please, please, please. I think it’s important for children to see adults working out and taking care of themselves. It sets a good example for a healthy lifestyle at a young age.
Also, my six year old is anxiously awaiting Crossfit kids to come to Montclair. How about offering a CrossFit kids class at the same time as an adult class. Perfect together!
These kids are YOUR future Guerillas!
5 day on 2 day off ppl
I have an idea for those of us who are on the 5 day on 2 day (weekends) off schedule…
I am glad that my strength has improved and it was my weak link, however I would like to have another day of a longer wod like we have on Wed.
I recently saw at a box in Cali that they combine Bench and Press (or sometimes Press, Push Press, Push Jerk) in one day and that is the wod for the day so you have 45 min to complete. An example: Bench 7-7-7 Shoulder Press 5-5-5- Push Press 3-3-3-
This would give another day (say Tue & Thur for longer wods & Strength M – W – F) for those who can not make it on the weekends. : )
Running Mechanics
It would be great if one of the endurance coaches could do a quick overview of proper running form the next time we have a long run in a WOD. Just learning not to ”heel strike” has noticeably improved my speed and stride.
