To all Guerrillas,
Chills, goosebumps and tears are all normal reactions when watching this video of the beloved "Speal". But, what's more important is the message it sends all of us.
It's so easy to say things are too hard or that they are out of reach. Whether it's movements and workouts in CF or bigger 'life things'. Pushing through to finishe a workout or try a weight that scares you is clearly a significant accomplishment, but it's the 'life stuff' that is really where it's at.
I encourage you to think about what you are struggling with in your life and realize that it's not always easy, but it is possible to overcome. Doing the right thing or taking the hard road is tough, but that's what CF teaches us every day. Do what's challenging and expect what seems impossible. People like Speal are reminders to demand more and to not give up until the fight is absolutely over.

I LOVE THIS!!! So motivating, so powerful. Im rooting for you Spealler!!
Speal is the man. He has always personified everything I love about CrossFit.
It’s a pretty big deal to us too Speal, go get it.
God damn I love this video. It gives me the chills, just like every time I get ready to do a workout. CrossFit reminds me a lot like my wrestling days. I love the team aspect of every class and every workout, but in reality it comes down to one man versus another. Mentally you got to be strong than the other person, you have to be willing to push that bar a little higher. Teammates will always be there to help prop you back up and move on to train another day, but in the end only you know if you could have given a little bit more and if you’re ok knowing that. Kind of like Spealler says, he was ok with not making it to the games if he was beaten, he wasn’t ok leaving the regionals knowing he could have given more.
“That power that God put inside you…. ”
I really like that part… We all have it… The question is :: Have you tapped within? Have you tapped that power?
I can honestly say… I don’t think I have.. to my fullest potential…
Things happen for a reason… I needed to see this video.. at this moment…
Thank you for posting. And thank you for the reminder..
“….realize that it’s not always easy, but it is possible to overcome”
That’s because you need to EAT MEAT!
This is amazing and truly inspiring. I’m sure we can all take away at least 10 things from it. I encourage everyone to spend the 11 minutes to watch it – and then watch it again. Seriously, you will NOT be disappointed!!
Dana- I’m glad I posted it. Watching it last night I knew that every person who watched it could take something from it and realize that they can do more, give more, persevere more than they are right in this moment.
Love u!
I watched this last night and I noticed something that still has me thinking 24 hours later…
I was struck when he finished the last muscle up and collapsed gasping for air. While watching the WOD, all I could think was how calm, even paced, and hardworking his demeanor was. I was seriously doubting that this was footage of the actual comeback WOD. I did not feel any strain or rush in his movements – just plain old work.
Thinking back to what he said reminded me – this is a great athlete who has put in the practice reps yet is managing his fear of losing and all that goes with it. Once he starts, its not about the pain, difficulty, or fear, its about just getting to work.
We all have fears – they are healthy and reminders that we are taking risks and not sitting on the sidelines. But success comes from how we manage fear. I’ve been seeing a change in my own demeanor that I have nothing to attribute it to except for CrossFit. While I have a long way to go in the sport, people who know me and know my life are telling me how calm and steady I am in the face of adversity. That’s got to be a first for me. All I really think about now is “Just get to work.” I wish I had known these lessons years ago when I was competing on the golf course and wanted to be the best more than anything.
Knowing how to put fear in its place and “just get to work” will get me back to the level I want to be, and more importantly to give what I have the potential to give. It will also be what I tell myself tomorrow morning during “3, 2, 1…”
Very well said, Kara!
“…success comes from how we manage fear.”
I love it! So true.
WOW… Speal the Deal, i love this Video. Like he says, “No one gave this to me I earned everything by myself, that’s why it’s a big deal to me”. It just goes to show you that how far determination and dedication can take you if you have the love for what you do. I have said this from the day one, the day I came face to face with Crossfit WOD.
I came for the Saturday 9 AM trial class. At the end of the class I had no clue of my thoughts my breath or what the hell I just did. But one thing I was sure about that, it woke me up, and something which really got me thinking. After the work out I said to Jody and Wendy who were instructing the class that morning. I said, “This really wakes you up from within”. Now after 10 months I can confidently realize what this means to me. At that time Crossfit woke me up from my physical aspects, because the WOD kicked my ass so badly it really woke me up physically and I wanted to be in a better shape, better condition than I was at that time. Now that statement has so many positive meaning and provided so many amazing solutions in my life and for that I will always be grateful for Crossfit and Guerrilla family
to have marked a major milestone in cultivating a positive direction in my life. This video is a piece of motivation which gives us a new breath, a new life into our own lives and refreshes us all as to what drives us and to hold on to the beauty each of us have created in our lives, in and out of the box. I Love it…
